Happy New Year!

God Bless you, your family and friends!

VENI, CREATOR SPIRITUS

(Come Holy Spirit, Creator Blest)

One of the most widely used hymns in the Church, Veni, Creator Spiritus, is attributed to Rabanus Maurus; (776-856). It is used at Vespers, Pentecost, Dedication of a Church, Confirmation, and Holy Orders and whenever the Holy Spirit is solemnly invoked. A partial indulgence is granted to the faithful who recite it. A plenary indulgence is granted if it is recited on January 1st or on the feast of Pentecost.

From the Catholic Encyclopedia:

The "most famous of hymns" (Frere), is assigned in the Roman Breviary to Vespers (I and II) and Terce of Pentecost and throughout the octave. The Church also sings it at such solemn functions as the election of popes, the consecration of bishops, the ordination of priests, the dedication of churches, the celebration of synods or councils, the coronation of kings, etc. It is also sung in the more private devotions attending the opening and closing of that scholastic year in institutions of learning. The Congregation of Rites decreed (20 June, 1899) that the Eastertide doxology (Deo Patri sit gloria — Et Filio qui a mortuis — Surrexit ac Paraclito — In sæculorum sæcula) should always be used, no matter what, the feast or season of the year might be. The Vatican Graduale (1908) gives the older text, (attestation of which does not go back beyond the ninth century) and also, under the heading "secundum usum recentiorem", the present Breviary text, which is a revision, in the interest of classical prosody, of the older text, by the correctors of the Breviary under Urban VIII. The doxology of the older text (which is probably not original with the text itself) is: "Sit laus Patri cum Filio — Sancto simul Paraclito — Nobisque mittat Filius — Charisma Sancti Spiritus". This doxology is generally associated with the hymn "Beata nobis gaudia".

dones; tú, el dedo de la mano de Dios;
tú, el prometido del Padre;
tu palabra.

Enciende con tu luz nuestros sentidos;

Oración: Oh Dios, que has instruido
consuelos. Por Jesucristo nuestro
Señor.

R. Amén.

Veni, Creator Spiritus (English)

Come, Holy Spirit, Creator blest,
and in our souls take up Thy rest;
come with Thy grace and heavenly aid
to fill the hearts which Thou hast made.

O comforter, to Thee we cry,
O heavenly gift of God Most High,
O fount of life and fire of love,
and sweet anointing from above.

Thou in Thy sevenfold gifts are known;
Thou, finger of God's hand we own;
Thou, promise of the Father,
Thou Who dost the tongue with power imbue.

Kindle our sense from above,
and make our hearts o'erflow with love;
with patience firm and virtue high
the weakness of our flesh supply.

Far from us drive the foe we dread,
and grant us Thy peace instead;
so shall we not, with Thee for guide,
turn from the path of life aside.

Oh, may Thy grace on us bestow
the Father and the Son to know;
and Thee, through endless times confessed,
of both the eternal Spirit blest.

Now to the Father and the Son,
Who rose from death, be glory given,
with Thou, O Holy Comforter,
henceforth by all in earth and heaven.
Amen.

V. Send forth Thy Spirit, and they shall be created.
R. And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.

Let us Pray: O God, Who didst instruct the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Ghost: give to us, in the same Spirit, to know what is right, and ever rejoice in His consolation. Through Jesus Christ, Thy Son, our Lord, Who with Thee livest and reignest in the unity of the same Holy Spirit, God. World without end. Amen.

TE DEUM (En Español)

A ti, oh Dios, te alabamos,
a ti, Señor, te reconocemos.
A ti, eterno Padre,

Salva a tu pueblo, Señor,
y bendice tu heredad.
Sé su pastor
y ensálzalo eternamente.

Día tras día te bendecimos
y alabamos tu nombre para siempre,
por eternidad de eternidades.

Dígnate, Señor, en este día
guardarnos del pecado.
Ten piedad de nosotros, Señor,
ten piedad de nosotros.

Que tu misericordia, Señor, venga sobre nosotros,
como lo esperamos de ti.
En ti, Señor, confié,
no me veré defraudado para siempre.

Thou didst not disdain the Virgin's womb.
Having overcome the sting of death, Thou opened the Kingdom of Heaven to all
believers.
Thou sitest at the right hand of God in the glory of the Father.
We believe that Thou willst come to be our Judge.
We, therefore, beg Thee to help Thy servants whom Thou hast redeemed with Thy
Precious Blood.
Let them be numbered with Thy Saints in everlasting glory.

V. Save Thy people, O Lord, and bless Thy inheritance!
R. Govern them, and raise them up forever.

R. And we praise Thy Name forever, yes, forever and ever.

R. O Lord, in Thee I have put my trust; let me never be put to shame.

A blessed new year as well to you!
I hoped to start the year in a midnight Mass, but the closest Mass was held 10 PM of the 31st.
